Participatory Quilt arrives in Baku, Azerbaijan, marking the project’s debut in the region. Conceived by world-renowned artist Judy Chicago in collaboration with DMINTI, this evolving participatory artwork invites audiences to respond to questions posed by Chicago and add their voices to a physical and digital quilt woven from responses gathered around the world. Since its launch in 2022, the project has traveled across the United States, Mexico, Argentina, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, India, and Turkey, creating an ever-growing global archive. Drawing on the history of quilting as a medium for memory, storytelling, and collective expression, the work extends Chicago’s decades-long feminist practice into an interactive global platform for dialogue and participation. Chicago has long believed in the healing power of art and its potential to serve as a medium for social and political change. In Baku, visitors are invited to enter an interactive recording booth, respond to Chicago’s What If Women Ruled the World? questions, and become part of the work’s latest chapter. The evolving quilt asks us to imagine a different tomorrow—one where leadership is defined by empathy, collaboration, and responsibility.
