Radius of Responsibility | Elvin Nabizadeh

Elvin Nabizadeh Radius of Responsibility Human beings affect nature not only through their actions, but also through the position they take. Radius of Responsibility explores the invisible connection between humans and wildlife. The work presents a Caucasian leopard and a gazelle. At first glance, they appear ordinary. However, when the viewer approaches, the central idea is revealed. The sculptures are visible under light coming from a specific direction. When a visitor approaches to look more closely or take a photograph, they unknowingly block the light, causing the animal to disappear into darkness. At that moment, they understand that it is not the sculpture that has changed, but their own position. When the person takes one step back, the animal becomes visible again. Other visitors experience the same situation and begin to give space to one another. In this way, the work creates a sense of collective responsibility without explaining it directly. For the artist, this work is not simply a call to protect nature. It is about becoming aware of our own behavior and its consequences. Sometimes, the most responsible action is not to move forward, but to take one step back — creating space for ourselves, for others, and for the life around us.
