Fly to Baku: Flow State

Baku is a city of fountains, of public spaces anchored by water that hold the stories of people and communities across time. Fountains in Baku are where people come together, relax, play, argue, fight, reminisce, dream and fall in love. They are both a stage and a living room, where public and private lives meet and intertwine. Water is a metaphor for the movement, change and growth of Baku - a dynamic record of the city and its people, an expression of its flow. For this project, 8 artists have been commissioned to create artworks inspired by fountains across the city centre of Baku as a focal point to tell a specific story of that place from a personal or communal perspective as a public artwork. Topics delve into the use of fountains within public space and how it has shaped the identity of the city and its communities, and how these spaces can shape new perceptions, visions and speculative futures for Baku. The exhibition will be held at Kichik QalArt Gallery for the month of November. Six of the artists will also present public performances prior to the opening of the exhibition and the public are invited to come view and participate in the performances. The schedule will be announced via social media.
