Nazrin Mammadova QUALIA: TRACE / CODE October 30 – November 20, 2026 Artefact Gallery QUALIA: TRACE / CODE is a solo exhibition by Azerbaijani contemporary artist Nazrin Mammadova, exploring the unstable boundary between dreaming and waking, reality and subjective experience. At the heart of the exhibition is a question: why is waking consciousness perceived as “real” reality, while dreaming is considered secondary? Mammadova is interested in the moment when familiar coordinates of space, time, and the body begin to dissolve, allowing consciousness to construct its own version of reality. The exhibition brings together abstract visual fields, architectural fragments, traces, and coded structures. Code becomes a metaphor for the human desire to classify, record, measure, and translate subjective experience into data. The title reflects this structure: QUALIA — the experience itself; TRACE — what remains after it; CODE — an attempt to record and reproduce it. Nazrin Mammadova’s artistic practice centres on identity, human existence, perception, and the invisible connections between the individual and the surrounding world. Working primarily in abstract painting, she creates layered, intuitive compositions through colour, gesture, and rhythm, exploring the boundary between the material and immaterial. The exhibition will also feature a live sound performance created by the artist, extending its exploration of dreaming, sleep, and liminal perception.
