Ancient Stones, Contemporary Memory
Ancient Stones, Contemporary Memory by Orkhan Nabizadeh draws inspiration from the ancient rock art of Gobustan, where generations of people recorded the natural world in images carved into stone. Reinterpreting this ancestral visual language, the artist creates five sculptural representations of Azerbaijan’s natural heritage.
The installation transforms the Caucasian Leopard, Goitered Gazelle, Brown Bear, Grey Wolf and Imperial Eagle into contemporary figures of memory, connecting Azerbaijan’s prehistoric past with an urgent ecological concern: what we risk losing today. Just as ancient images preserved traces of a world for future generations, Ancient Stones, Contemporary Memory asks us to consider what kind of natural world we will leave behind.
Ancient stones become contemporary memory - and a call for responsibility.
What kind of nature will we leave to future generations?
